Old Bedford River

We understand that although the Old Bedford Sluice is now operational the Old Bedford River on the non-tidal side of the sluice is un-navigable. Reports suggest that the depth of water there is less than 6 inches due to accumulation of silt.

Closure of Welch's Dam sluice

The Environment Agency has announced the closure of Welch's Dam sluice, between the 40-foot Drain (Vermuyden's Drain) and the Old Bedford river on the Middle Level Navigations, until further notice due to problems with leakage through the vee doors.
