The Committee for Wales (CFW) was set up primarily to provide a means of good communication on pan Wales waterway matters within the Association, including specialist advice and assistance and to advise Council on matters relevant to the Association’s activities in Wales. The structure is flexible allowing Branches to meet as and when required and provides a platform to engage with Welsh Canal Societies, offering help and assistance in furthering the interests of the navigations.
Formal meetings are arranged twice a year – normally in or around April and October. Meetings are held in the mid Wales area, as this is geographically convenient to the present membership. Meetings normally last for between 2-3 hours. The CFW takes minutes for each meeting but does not hold an AGM.
It also:
- Provides a means of giving Welsh identity to existing work and to enable this
to be undertaken as effectively as possible. - Undertakes primary consultation on pan Wales issues with Head Office, Welsh Assembly Government and other relevant Welsh bodies and institutions.
- Liaises, as necessary, with both the IWA Shrewsbury District & North Wales Branch and the IWA South Wales Branch of the Association.
- Undertakes, as necessary, secondary consultation with the Western and South West Region of the Association.
- Consults with the IWA Chester and District Branch on cross boundary issues as appropriate.
