Branch Walks 2008-9
October 2008 – February 2009
All walks take place on the 4
th
Thursday of the month commencing at 10.15 am and are open to IWA members and non-members alike. Each walk starts and finishes at a pub. Anyone requiring lunch at the pub at the end of the walk can book his or her meal just before we set out on the walk.
23 October: Barbridge
Starting at the Barbridge Inn just east of the A51 about 3 miles north west of Nantwich town centre, this walk is about 3.5 miles long and covers parts of the Shropshire Union and Llangollen canals and the open country between. OS map reference 615 567
27 November: Daresbury
The Ring O’Bells just east of the A56 about 5 miles east of Runcorn is the starting point for this walk through woodland to the Bridgewater Canal, returning through open pastures. The walk is about 3.5 miles long with one uphill stretch. OS map reference 579 828
22 January: Anderton
After leaving the Stanley Arms in Old Road Anderton which is about 1.25 miles north of Northwich town centre, this walk follows the Trent and Mersey Canal before heading for Witton Brook and returning via the River Weaver and the Anderton Nature Park. Length about 3.6 miles. OS map reference 647 753
26 February: Acton Bridge
The base for this walk is the Leigh Arms on the A49 where it crosses the River Weaver about 4 miles north west of Northwich. The walk is about 4.6 miles long and takes in parts of the Trent and Mersey Canal and the River Weaver. OS map reference 602 761
