IWA Launches Lengthsman Initiative

Concerned about the possible detrimental effects of the cuts in funding to the Navigation Authorities, IWA has launched the Lengthsman Initiative.

The Lengthsman Initiative encourages all waterways users to report issues affecting the safe use of the waterways network and provides a series of simple templated report forms on which to record;

Abandoned trolleys in watercourses,

Faulty locks,

Other maintenance issues.affecting the safety or enjoyment of the waterways network.

The reports are set up to electronically self-direct to IWA who will pass them on to the relevant authority for action.

In doing so, IWA hopes to gather evidence of the practical impact of the cuts on the maintenance of the system and hold the authorities and government to account.
