IWA Campaign Receives Substantial Anonymous Donation
Release Date: 23 July, 2007
The Inland Waterways Association (IWA) is pleased to announce that it has received a substantial donation from a long standing supporter who wishes to remain anonymous.
The donation has been specifically made “to the Association as a protest against the Government’s cuts in funding via DEFRA to British Waterways and the Environment Agency and the unfortunate consequences arising there-from”. The donation amounts to £25,000.
Speaking on behalf of IWA, John Fletcher, national chairman said.
“I am delighted on behalf of the Association to receive such a generous donation, in support of a cause which is of such major concern to all those who love and support the waterways. I record the Association’s gratitude to our benefactor who wants to help support us to maintain spending in other areas which might otherwise have been reduced due to the costs of the campaign”.
“IWA are an effective campaign organisation, because we have striven to fund and retain the services of a parliamentary advisor and maintain an active lobby movement with MPs and ministers in Parliament. Donations such as this mean that we will be able to continue to maintain an active front against the cuts and to ensure the best outcome for the future of the waterways in general”.
