The Calder and Hebble links with the Aire and Calder Navigation at Wakefield, the Huddersfield Broad Canal at Kirklees and the Rochdale Canal at Sowerby Bridge.

The navigation has 39 locks and runs for 21.5 miles or 34.4km.

Historical Information

Following an Act of Parliament in 1758 to extend the navigation of the Calder from Wakefield to Sowerby Bridge, the waterway was opened for boats in 1770.
