(Canal owned by West Sussex County Council)

Dredging work by Chichester Ship Canal Trust in recent years had made the canal navigable for almost two miles to the village of Donnington, and a further commercial contract in late 2003 extended this through to the first of two major lowered road bridge obstructions. The Trust aims to make the canal navigable to the sea.  West Sussex County Council are targeting for this to be achieved by 2010.  It will involve the building of two road bridges, possibly re-routing the canal to facilitate this, building one lock and the refurbishment of another.Maintenance of the canal is an ongoing project and includes dredging, verge management and keeping the towpath clear.

Current Trust projects include the development of a nature walk.

The Canal is well used by a popular trip boat and by hired rowing boats run by the Trust.
