(Line of canal in various ownerships)

The Dorset & Somerset Canal was planned in the 1790s to link the Kennet & Avon near Bath to Poole, Dorset.  Work only commenced on a branch line to the west of Frome, in Somerset.  The main line was never built.  The Dorset & Somerset Canal Society aims to secure the remaining features as stand-alone monuments of the canal-building age.  Regular work parties have been undertaken, especially on the recovery of the Fussell's Balance Locks, to conserve the canal and associated industrial archaeological heritage.
