Driffield Navigation Trust, supported by Driffield Navigation Amenities Association, intends to fully restore the navigation to Great Driffield.  In 2003, a further 1.6 miles of canal for was re-opened for navigation with a new Brigham Swing Bridge and a re-opened Snakeholme Lock.  The Heritage Lottery Fund has given stage 1 approval to Driffield Navigation Trust’s application for a grant of up to £1 million to complete restoration of Driffield Navigation, as part of a total funding package of about £2.7 million.  The balance of funding is being sought from East Riding of Yorkshire Council (£750,000) and Yorkshire Forward, the regional development agency (£950,000).  The stage 1 grant provides the Trust with up to £66,000 towards funding the development of a full application to the Lottery Fund, which has to be submitted by end of March 2007.  In order to complete this application, the Trust has had to commission thirteen major reports on the completion of the Navigation
