The Fossdyke continues the line of the river Witham from Lincoln to the river Trent at Torksey. The Witham connects the Fossdyke from Lincoln to Boston and The Wash. There are 4 locks over the total 48.25 mile (77.65km) navigations.

Entrance to the navigation is via the tidal Torksey Lock.  The lock is manned, during the daylight hours when water levels allow passage.
