www.britishwaterways.co.uk Today, this river forms a useful link to other waterways but offers little attraction in its own right as high flood banking restricts the views. Nevertheless, the river does pass through beautiful countryside and major historic towns and cities. The river runs from Stourport to Gloucester, with connections to the Gloucester and Sharpness Ship Canal; Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal; River Avon at Tewkesbury and the Worcestershire and Birmingham Canal at Worcester.

Historical Information
This has been an active transport route since Roman times. Its first Act was passed in 1503 and many more followed in attempts to tame the longest river in Britain. Nineteenth century improvements and adjoining new canals increased the use of the waterway.
