The river goes through Nottingham and links with the Nottingham Canal. The river connects with the Trent and Mersey Canal at Derwent Mouth, the Fossdyke Canal at Torksey, the Chesterfield Canal and River Idle at Stockwith and the Sheffield and South Yorkshire Navigation at Keadby. Below Cromwell Lock the river is tidal.
The river covers a total of 94.6 miles or 151.36km with 11 locks.

Historical Information
The
Romans used the Trent
for transport and the invading Danes also used the route. In 1699 the
first Act of Parliament was passed to improve this navigation, allowing boats
to reach Burton-on-Trent.
Improvements were then made around Newark
to ease access to the town.
