IWA Calendar Competition Winner
A shot of the Trevor Basin on the Llangollen Canal has been awarded top prize in our annual photography competition. The winning photo taken by Mark Fetherstone, received the most public votes out of the 13 shortlisted photos.
We asked Mark about the photo and what he loves about the waterways.
How did you come to take this photo?
I live about a mile from where the image was taken. That particular morning it was calm and misty so perfect for a walk around the Basin. The light was perfect and filtering beautifully through the trees. Along with the mist and the fire that was lit on the boat, it made for a great composition, not to mention the timely entrance of the Mallard ducks!
Is photography a hobby?
Up until very recently photography has been a passionate hobby of mine, however I have now decided to start my own full time photography business, Fetherstone Photography.

What sort of photos do you like to take?
My personal favourite is landscape photography, it is a great way to escape the world and live in the moment!
Do you enjoy being by the water?
I love being by the water, my favourite places are down by the Bont near the Pontcysyllte aqueduct, the Llangollen Canal at Trevor Basin and the River Dee where the Aqueduct crosses.

I take my camera with me on my mountain bike and I also walk a lot with my lovely springer spaniel - Sprocket.
I just love the waterways and the changing seasons, the peace and tranquility are perfect and were a real escape from my job, which involved driving on the motorways and doing 50,000 miles a year!
Mark will receive the top prize of £100 to spend at IWAShop.com plus copies of IWA's 2019 calendar featuring the photo. The calendar will be available to buy from August 2018.
