Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire Branch

Welcome to The IWA Notts & Derbyshire Branch Web Pages.

The Branch area covers the River Trent from Cromwell Lock ( where it ceases to be tidal) to Derwentmouth, all of the Erewash Canal,  the Trent & Mersey Canal from Derwentmouth to the Dove Aqueduct, and a small part of the Soar Navigation from the River Trent to Redhill Lock.

It also covers the Cromford, Derby & Sandiacre, and Grantham Canals, which are under restoration.

The Branch holds monthly Social meetings between September and May, and evening walks in June and July. Meetings are held at the Rushcliffe Arena in West Bridgford on the third Friday of the month, starting at 7-45pm. Details of each meeting can be found using the links on the left of this page, as can directions to our regular venue.

Our social meetings and walks are not restricted to IWA members, we would be delighted to welcome anyone with an interest in the inlamd waterways.

Friday February 17th 2012

Branch Annual General Meeting. This will be followed by the Region AGM Then John Pomfret, Chairman of our Region will give a talk entitled  “North East Rivers” covering the Rivers Humber, Idle, Wharfe, Tees and Tyne,  and assorted vessels thereon.

Friday April 20th 2012

Alexa Stott from the A1 Steam Locomotive Trust will present “From Dream to Steam - The Tornado Story”. Tornado was the first new main line steam locomotive to be built in Britain for almost 50 years.

 

Friday May 18th 2012

This month's meeting will as usual take the form of a walk, in this case along part of the Chesterfield canal, starting at 7pm from Staveley, and finishing at the new Hollingwood Hub visitor centre. More detailed information will be forthcoming closer to the event.

 

Friday 15th June 2012

The second of our evenibg walks, this time along the northernmost section of the Cromford Canal, meeting at 7pm at Cromford Wharf,from where we will walk to Leawood pumping station and back (approx 3 miles, level towpath ) Again more information closer to the event
