Milton Keynes Branch

Welcome to the Milton Keynes Branch of the Inland Waterways Association. In the following pages we aim to give you a flavour of the waterways in our area, and of the facilities on offer between Marsworth and the Iron Trunk Aqueduct between Wolverton and Cosgrove.

Milton Keynes is a new city and unlike many other cities looks upon its canals as a major resource. The towpaths are generally well maintained and well used throughout. We now have the real prospect of a new cut through to Bedford, opening up the River Great Ouse as a regular cruising area and a major "ring" taking in the River Nene and the Middle Levels.

As an IWA Branch we have regular social meetings from September to April and a number of water based events throughout the year. Non-members are welcome to participate at any time.

If you have any comments we would be very pleased to hear from you.  Meanwhile have a look at what we have to offer and enjoy your visit to our area.

Events

In Milton Keynes we hold monthly social meetings between September and April, usually on the 4th Monday of each month. The meetings include a guest speaker talking on subjects of interest. We currently meet at the Pavilion Community Sports Club, Worrelle Avenue, Milton Keynes Village, MK10 9AD. Approach from A4146 Tongwell Street V11 (between H6 and H7).

The venue opens its doors at 7.45 and the talks seldom get under way before 8.00. There is a licensed bar at the club. From September 2011 we have had to introduce a £2 per head admission fee to cover the cost of the venue hire and also speaker's expenses when needed. But the entry fee does include a raffle ticket - so it is possible to come home in profit!

Other events include our twice yearly clean-up of the Grand Union canal through Milton Keynes (click link on left) and our mid-summer lock ransom at 3 Locks, Soulbury - details will appear on the left nearer the time.
