Boating

All boats must be licensed by Essex Waterways Limited, and covered by at least third-party insurance, and those venturing above Hall Bridge must have a valid Boat Safety Certificate.

Maximum practical dimensions above Hall Bridge are:

Length 17.85m;
Width 4.62m:
Draft 0.62m (statutory minimum, though much of the waterway is deeper);
Air draft 1.9m (lowest bridge at Paper Mill).

Actual lock dimensions are approximately 18.46m x 4.92m.
