PRESS RELEASE: London’s Biggest Annual Canal Festival Returns to Little Venice

Issue date: 19th April 2018

London’s biggest annual waterway festival brings over 100 historic and modern canal narrowboats to the pool in Little Venice over the early May Bank Holiday weekend.  Featuring live music, street food, crafts, boat parades and competitions, visitors can spend the weekend soaking up the festival magic at IWA Canalway Cavalcade.

From mime and puppet shows in Rembrandt Gardens, to crafts, canoe taster sessions, and a children’s trail of activities, there’s lots to see and do for all the family. Children can find out how a lock works, build bridges and much more. Visitors can get involved by voting for their favourite themed or illuminated boat during the processions.

New for 2018 is a full programme of local groups, musicians, bands and dance groups in the Amphitheatre area,  in addition to jazz and blues in the pool, toe tapping original folk music in the ale tent and Morris sides.

Organised by volunteers from The Inland Waterways Association,  the charity that works to protect and restore the country's 6,500 miles of canals and rivers, IWA Canalway Cavalcade is unique waterway boat gathering, which has taken place annually for over 30 years.

IWA London Region Chairman, Paul Strudwick said: “I’m delighted to be part of London's biggest annual canal festival, which showcases London's canals at their most vibrant. I hope everyone enjoys the weekend.”
