Work at Paper Mill
Work started at Paper Mill Lock on 24th June to carry out essential pilling works between the lock and the road bridge. This is a fairly short stretch of works, but the bank here takes a great force of water from the weir in times of heavy rain, and if not protected is subject to rapid erosion. The work is expected to last up to about three weeks. The Navigation will remain open during this process; however please be patient and take extra care when both boating and walking around the area. There is a footpath diversion in place, which will guide you round the back of the boaters’ car park and through the gates of the tea rooms during their opening hours. We have asked the contractors to enable the footpath to be re-opened at weekends. Whilst this work is being carried out, the boaters’ car park at Paper Mill Lock will remain closed and the padlocks have been replaced with the contractors’ own locks. Additional parking is available in the tea rooms’ grassed car park area; however this will only be for whilst the tea rooms are open.
We have worked closely with the contractors to ensure the minimum amount of disruptions during this period and we shall be grateful for your patience whilst we carry out these essential works.
Heybridge Facilities Block
The code for the Facilities Block at Heybridge has recently been changed. The new code is available from Martin Maudsley, lock keeper at Heybridge. We have changed the code to try to discourage unauthorised use of the Facilities Block. If you spot people using the Facilities Block who you feel should not be there, please let Martin Maudsley know.
New Suggestions Box
There is a suggestions box now in place at Heybridge for visiting boaters. This is located just inside the porch at the lock house along with some suggestion forms. If there is anything you would like to see done, or feel we should improve on at Heybridge then please feel free to complete one of these and post inside the box. The lock keeper or residential caretakers are usually around at Heybridge to speak to in most cases; however this new facility is available if you would like to put something in writing. Alternatively, you can, of course, send us an e-mail at any time. Sensible and realistic suggestions only please!
