IWA's sponsored walk took place on Sunday 22nd February 2015, with the support of IWA Warwickshire Branch, to raise money towards the cost of four new minibuses for IWA’s Waterway Recovery Group in summer 2015. The vans will cost approximately £35,000 each.
The walk successfully raised over £2,000 and, despite bad weather, over 35 walkers turned up on the day.
The eight-mile circular walk started at Lapworth Village Hall and continued along idyllic stretches of the Stratford-upon-Avon and Grand Union canals towpaths as well as through country lanes and fields before ending back at the village hall.
Places were £5 per person and under 16s walked for free.
Support WRG's Canal Restoration Work
WRG’s small fleet of minibuses are a vital part of WRG’s operation, transporting tools, equipment and volunteers across the country to carry out waterway restoration work. Some of the existing vehicles show signs of ageing and the WRG Board has concluded that replacements are needed. By participating in this walk, not only will it be a great day out but you will be playing your part in assisting canal restoration projects for the coming years.
