Work Party - Ashton Canal, Manchester

Title Work Party - Ashton Canal, Manchester
Organiser IWA Manchester Branch
Details

IWA Manchester Branch – Monthly work party: CRT's Terry suggests we re-point the cobbles on the towpath slope at Lock 8. As the slope is some 25 metres in length and the gaps will require scraping clean, it is suggested we tackle this a section at a time. The usual lock clean-up work is also planned (vegetation cutting, litter picking and painting).

Reports from previous work parties can be viewed here.

Directions

There is no direct access to Lock 8, so it’s either via the Asda car park above Lock 7 or walking down from Lock 9, Clayton Lane. Further details will be circulated in the week before the 17th.

By Metro: the Metro station is close to lock 4/5. ie exit the station, cross the footbridge over the canal at Joe Mercer Way, descend the steps to the towpath and walk up to lock 8 to meet up.

Pedestrians and cyclists: if not using the towpath and/or the Metro, you can access lock 7 from Alan Turing Way, please note Alan Turing Way is a dual carriageway.
