IWA Manchester Branch – July's work party will take place at Aston Canal lock 13 which is situated at the end of Crabtree Lane, next to the “Strawberry Duck” pub. Crabtree Lane is off Ashton New Road. In October this year IWA Manchester Branch is planning to hold a small celebration of the 1968 efforts of 600 volunteers who in that year demonstrated the will of the people to protect our then endangered canal system. It is hoped to show a film shot by a volunteer in 1968, more on that to follow.
Reports from previous work parties can be viewed here.
The Metro line to Ashton runs along Ashton New Road and I've estimated that the Metro stop at Edge Lane is nearer than the stop at Clayton Hall so if you use the former you will have to walk back down Ashton New Road to Crabtree Lane which has an Aldi on the corner, Again I have estimated this at some 600+ metres. Metro station info and Metro station map.
The post code for other modes of transport is 76 Crabtree Lane, M11 4GU.
Parking is available at either lock 7 or in Stuart Street, which is accessible via Ashton New Road and then from Bank street and Fairclough Street.
