Carrie House will talk us throughthe Stainton, Hincaster and Sedgewick Project, with a focus on community engagement.
IWA is part of the Lancaster Canal Regeneration Partnership (LCRP), which is working to create a fully accessible ‘Towpath Trail’ between Kendal and Lancaster. This will encourage people to explore the beautiful canal landscape through healthy walking and cycling activity, whilst learning about the environment, nature, history and heritage along the way. Following the destruction and restoration of Stainton Aqueduct, LCRP received a National Lottery Heritage Fund grant to employ a Community Engagement Project Officer, Carrie House, to deliver a series of community events in Stainton, Hincaster and Sedgwick. This stretch of the Lancaster Canal has a rich heritage, both built and natural, including several stunning pieces of infrastructure (including Hincaster Tunnel and Sedgwick Aqueduct) and a variety of wet and dry habitats. Carrie is working with local communities to organise volunteering activities, public events, small-scale regeneration work, and to encourage new audiences to the towpath.
