Popular Canals and Rivers Win Restoration Funds in IWA Raffle21 January 2015
Canal and river restoration projects across the country will benefit from more than £13,000 raised by IWA’s first Waterways Restoration Raffle, which ended in mid-January after five and a half months of ticket sales.
In all, over 7,000 tickets were sold by IWA directly and through restoration groups.
IWA’s National Chairman, Les Etheridge praised the generosity of ticket buyers and thanked the donors of raffle prizes, which included a number of boating breaks and holidays.
“The fact that we beat our original fundraising target well before ticket sales closed is a tribute to the enduring popularity of the waterways” he commented.
IWA has a long history of leading and supporting waterway restoration. It offers expertise and advice to restoration trusts, societies and associations through its consultants and restoration committee, while its Waterway Recovery Group provides practical and technical support to waterways restoration projects as well as providing skills training for volunteers.
