Waterways Manifesto Gains Support of MPs

Waterways Manifesto Gains Support of MPs

14 June 2017

IWA’s Waterway Manifesto attracted over 360 pledges of support from parliamentary candidates during the lead up to the recent general election.   Among the MPs subsequently elected were many who had pledged or otherwise contacted IWA with supportive comments, including a number of newly appointed MPs.

You can see the full list of the 364 candidates who pledged their support. If your MP isn’t listed, why not make contact with them to encourage them to get involved with local waterway restoration or regeneration projects in your area, and to ask them to join the All Party Parliamentary Waterways Group.  As you will see from our list, several high profile MP's like Andrew Bridgen – North West Leicestershire, John McDonnell - Shadow Chancellor and Graham Brady – Chairman of the 1922 Committee have pledged to support our waterways so your MP would be in good company.

The pledges, messages of support and our long term relationships with existing MPs and Lords gives IWA a solid base for ongoing parliamentary work to ensure that the true value of our inland waterways is understood and appreciated at Westminster.
