Lichfield Heritage Towpath Trail Launched28 October 2013
Lichfield and Hatherton Canals Restoration Trust has taken the first steps in providing a new outdoor amenity for Lichfield. The Trust has launched the Heritage Towpath Trail, which follows the route of the on-going restoration of the Lichfield Canal from Huddlesford to Ogley Junction.
Over the coming months signs are to be put in place to mark sections of the Lichfield Canal towpath that will be opened to the public as part of the Heritage Trail. A brochure and interactive map will also be issued illustrating the route of the canal, walks, cycle routes and heritage information.
Doug Hamilton Cox, Help for Heroes champion, recently opened the first six kilometres of the trail. Doug Hamilton Cox is walking the canals of the UK collecting for the troops along the way, and raising the profile of the work being done to restore our industrial heritage.
