Storm hits Chelmer & Blackwater Navigation

Storm hits Chelmer & Blackwater Navigation

31 October 2013

The storm that affected parts of the country between Sunday 27th and Monday 28th October has brought down a number of trees on the Chelmer and Blackwater Navigation. Several large trees are lying across the navigation, which will be cleared as soon as possible, and Essex Waterways Ltd staff have already dealt with others that were close to roads or affecting overhead cables. Currently being dealt with is a large tree above Wave Bridge, Heybridge, which is lying on a gas main that crosses the Navigation and which has brought down telephone and electricity cables. Some damage has been caused at Freshwater Crescent, Heybridge, where uprooted willow trees have damaged nearby drives and the waterside path. There may be fallen trees in more isolated areas of the canal that have not yet been reported but staff are working quickly to check the area and solve any issues arising from the weather conditions earlier in the week.
