Planning Permission Awarded for Restoration of the Derby and Sandiacre Canal

Issue date: 24th October 2011

Outline Planning Permission has recently been awarded for the restoration of a canal along the full 12 mile canal corridor from the Trent & Mersey Canal at Swarkestone to the Erewash Canal at Sandiacre.

This is excellent news as it means that all the relevant Planning Authorities have now given official support to the canal restoration. Piecemeal restoration projects can now be promoted/developed in the full knowledge that the remainder will follow later.

It is the culmination of 4 years and more of effort by the Derby and Sandiacre Canal Trust (which includes IWA) and is a tremendous step forward.

The Derby Arm boat lift still requires planning permission, which will be sought when details are more defined.
