IWA Birmingham, Black Country & Worcestershire Branch was involved in the BCN clean-up of the Walsall Canal on the 21st - 22nd April.
The Waterway Recovery Group arrived on Friday evening & thanks to the sponsorship of Walsall Metropolitan Borough were accommodated in Brownhills for the two nights. As well as the faithful support of WRGies from all over the country & local IOWA/Canal society members there was a good turnout from the local community. This included a group on SP scheme & residents from a Women's refuge.
Approximately 80 volunteers took part on the Saturday which swelled to 100 on the Sunday. Approximately 25 tons of rubbish was removed from the canal bed over the weekend.
The BW boat was joined by boats Phoenix from BCNS, Hawne from Coombeswood canal Trust & Bittle from Dudley Canal Trust without whose help the clean up would not have proceeded.
