IWA has responded to British waterways raising concerns over the following key points:
That the claim by BW that there was no increase in licence fees this year is not true, due to removal of early payer discount rendering an increase in excess of the retail prices index and possibly more dependent on the outcome of British Waterways decisions
Additional concern was raised that the loss of boat club collection fees meant that not only would clubs suffer a loss of income, but BW would lose the use of a valuable resource in policing the licensing of boats when licence evasion is still a major issue. This was considered a retrograde step and likely to make matters worse.
Concern was also raised over the loss of the Explorer licence, which it was felt could create an adverse impact on grass roots participation.
