A Free Event by The Waterways Festival
The Waterways Festival is delighted to present a special free evening event over its activity packed weekend. An illuminated boat procession – themed ‘Blooms and Beer’ – will take place on the evening of Friday 29th July and festival organisers are hoping the local community will come along and watch this unique event.
People will be able to enjoy a moonlight stroll along the tow path for about a mile and view the beautifully decorated boats, which will all be competing to win the title of ‘Best Illuminated Boat Award 2011’. The procession will start at 10pm approximately from Horninglow Basin, via Dallow Lane Lock to Shobnall Road Bridge.
Paul Chilvers, Festival Awards Officer, said: “We hope the illuminated boat procession will be a fantastic spectacle for local people to enjoy - it always attracts huge crowds and we are hoping for a big turn-out again. The boaters take the procession very seriously and create beautiful displays to wow the crowds - we hope this year will be the best yet.”
Waterways enthusiasts will have the opportunity to win 16 different awards at The Waterways Festival, with two new categories launched for the Burton upon Trent event: Best Floral Decorated Boat (sponsored by East Staffordshire Borough Council) and Best Decorated Campsite Unit (sponsored by Springfields).
