Issue date: 3rd July 2013
IWA Chester & Merseyside Branch's River Mersey Campaign Convoys will take place on 7th and 8th July.
The first convoy was held in 1967 as part of the IWA National Rally in Liverpool. Regular convoys started in 2010 with 26 boats and have been building in popularity since.
This year there will be two convoys. There will be 10 narrow boats travelling from Ellesmere Port to Liverpool on Sunday 7th July (weather permitting) and 5 narrow boats travelling from Liverpool to Ellesmere Port on Monday 8th July.
This particular journey can be quite expensive for boaters due to licence fees needed for the Manchester Ship Canal plus a fee for Brunswick Lock, but the Branch has arranged significant discounts thanks to its good relations with Peel Ports and Liverpool Marina.
To make this event a bit different this year, there will be three boats completing double crossings as part of a circular route linking Ellesmere Port, Liverpool and the River Weaver.
The Branch will be joined by the Stephen Goldsbrough Boat Owners Club and Broken Cross Boat Club.
