IWA Lichfield Branch organised a litter pick on the Trent & Mersey Canal which took place on Saturday 19th November 2011.
The branch was joined by twelve young volunteers from the First Armitage Cubs group who spent a morning picking up litter along nearly 3 miles of the Trent & Mersey Canal. The cubs walked from The Mossley at Rugeley to the church at Armitage, clearing the towpath and adjacent areas of unsightly plastic bags, cans, bottles and assorted rubbish. Equipment and support was provided by British Waterways. The cubs, along with parents and members of IWA, filled about 20 large sacks with litter, and even retrieved a supermarket trolley from the bottom of a steep embankment. The enthusiastic youngsters worked hard to improve the canal environment for local people, visitors and wildlife.
