On 4th May, IWA North Riding Branch held an open day at Castle Mills Lock in York.
IWA North Riding Branch operated Castle Mills Lock to allow widebeam "Moon River" to enter the River Foss from the River Ouse.
For many years, York City Council operated the lock for a hefty fee, but they came to an agreement with IWA North Riding Branch, whereby trained volunteers can operate the lock on request, as a free service to all boaters.
As part of the open day, the branch ran half a dozen shuttle trips upriver and back with passengers.
