Ponty Paddle on the Swansea Canal

Issue date: 15 July 2011

IWA's South Wales Branch and Swansea Canal Society propose to hold a “Ponty Paddle”, a fun day out on the Swansea Canal. If you have access to a portable craft, canoe, dinghy, kayak, coracle or anything that safely floats, and you are a member of a recognised group or organisation, you are most welcome to attend.

The event this year will be held on Sunday 14th of August 2011, from about 10 a.m., above Pontardawe in the Swansea Valley, and coincides with the Pontadawe Summer Festival held over the same weekend.

The purpose of the gathering is not a test of speed of the portable vessels, but to test the skills of the navigators, to provide publicity for the restoration of the Swansea Canal and to have a fun day out.

The course is set out over approximately four miles of canal from the Recreation Ground, Brecon Road, south into Pontardawe Centre, then North to the Ynysmeudwy Arms and back.
