Waterborne Freight on the River Trent

Issue date: 24th October 2011

IWA Nottinghamshire & Derbyshire Branch have recently commented on a multitude of sections within the Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Waste Core Strategy (part of the Local Development Framework)

The aim is to encourage the use of waterborne freight transport on the river Trent instead of road transport.

The above core strategy concerns waste management, what to do with future waste and where to site any processing plants, if they are needed.

By commenting at this stage in the development of the strategy, there's a chance of influencing where any future processing plants might be located (adjacent to a river or a wharf, for instance) and which mode of transport is favoured for waste/recovered material flows into and out of any processing centres.
