Ashby Canal Restoration

Issue date: 1st November 2012

At a very well attended public Open Day on 14th October, the chairman of Leicestershire County Council formally opened a further 40-metre length of the restored Ashby Canal north of Snarestone. At the event, Ashby Canal Association presented a cheque for £50,000 towards the restoration costs - the result of tireless fund-raising efforts over the last few years.

Work parties (including a WRG weekend in December) will continue through the coming winter months to clear the line of the canal ready for further restoration work which is expected to commence in 2013.
