Boat Safety Scheme Warning on Portable Gas Equipment

Issue date: 3rd July 2013

The Boat Safety Scheme has issued a warning to all boaters to minimise the use of portable gas equipment following recent accidents.  The risks of explosion, fire and Carbon Monoxide poisoning are all drawn to attention, when such equipment is used in any confined space – this especially includes inside vessels, but also includes outdoor confined areas, such as in lock chambers.  Most portable gas cylinders leak small amounts of gas when cylinders are changed, so this should never be done indoors under any circumstances.  Further information is available on the Boat Safety Scheme website.
