Issue date: 15th August 2011

Comedian David Walliams, has raised over £1m for Sports Relief by swimming a stretch of the River Thames from Lechdale, Gloucestershire to Westminster Bridge.

The swim highlighted some of the potential dangers of river swimming as there were strong currents, cold water, boat traffic and 'Thames tummy' caused by raw sewage to contend with as well as being attacked by swans, insects, and hit by rowing boat oars.
