The map is a single laminated A4 sheet, but is packed with carefully prepared detail. The front of the map shows the connected UK waterway network, divided into ‘2 hour’ sections, over 450 places being shown as dots 2 hours apart. To calculate the time to cruise between any given places, just count the dots and multiply by 2 hours. Similar, smaller, maps on the reverse repeat the design, but with 6, 8 and 10 hour intervals. The unique "2 hour "format is easy to use, and times regularly checked. Recent changes have included a reduction in River Thames, and small increases in times for parts of the North Oxford and Grand Union Canals. Version 2.7 dated 2016 is now available.

Sixty years ago, a small band of enthusiasts gathered together to form The Inland Waterways Association. They had witnessed the decline of the canal network and closure of parts of the system and all had decided to do something about it. From those early beginnings, The Inland Waterways Association grew into a group of 17,500 members, all dedicated to restoring and using Britain’s inland waterways.
