Our programme of illustrated talks run from October through to May, usually on the 2nd Friday of each month. The programme for Autumn 2019 to Spring 2020 is as follows:
Friday 11th October – 7:45 for 8pm
An Introduction to the Shrewsbury & Newport Canals (Brian Nelson)
A pictorial tour of the Shrewsbury and Newport Canals; plus their history and restoration plans.
Friday 8th November – 7:45 for 8pm
Burslem Port update (Steve Wood)
Recent progress towards full restoration, including the current “Footsteps” project.
Friday 13th December – 7:45 for 8pm
The History of Cromford Mills and Sir Richard Arkwright (Arkwright Society)
Sir Richard Arkwright pioneered the world’s first successful water powered cotton spinning mill at Cromford.
Friday 14th February – 7:45 for 8pm
From Mayors' Cruise to National Festival (Christine Smith)
Celebrating over 30 years of Canalway Cavalcade at Little Venice.
Friday 13th March – 7:45 for 8pm
Annual General Meeting followed by films presented by Alan Chetwyn.
Friday 17th April – 7:45 for 8pm
The Daniel Adamson (Les Green and Bob Cannell)
The early working life of this steam ship, the restoration work needed to save ‘The Danny’ and the ship’s new role as a tourist attraction.
Admission to these talks is FREE. Refreshments available. Non-members are very welcome.
All meetings start at 8pm with the doors of the boat club opening at 7.45pm.
