IWA canal cleanups and work parties are at the heart of what our volunteers do. IWA Branches arrange these events across the country and throughout the year, with like-minded people gathering together to have a good time and make a visible difference to our waterways. Work can be carried out on the towpath, waterway or both with tasks including litter picking, vegetation clearance, lock painting and pulling items from the canal – as you can see there is something for everyone!
Equipment is provided and volunteers are asked to wear strong shoes, old clothes and to bring waterproofs. Tea and coffee is often available but a packed lunch should be bought if you intend to be out for the whole day.
Canal clean-ups and work parties are listed on our calendar or take a look at the information on regular work parties.
