Waterways in the branch

Milton Keynes is a new city and unlike many other cities looks upon its canals as a major resource. The towpaths along the Grand Union Canal are generally well maintained and well used throughout. We now have the real prospect of a new cut through to Bedford, opening up the River Great Ouse as a regular cruising area and a major ring taking in the River Nene and the Middle Level Navigations.

We also support the Grand Union Canal – Buckingham Arm, which is currently under active restoration.

New waterways add value

The advantages of the proposed waterways far exceed leisure boating alone. They incorporate a nature reserve, footpaths and cycle ways, the potential to improve flora and fauna and will contribute to the health and wellbeing of locals and visitors.
