Portsmouth and Arundel Navigation

(Canal in various ownerships)

The Portsmouth & Arundel Canal provided an inland route parallel to the South Coast, joining the river Arun Navigation to Portsmouth.  Some of the line of the Canal has been built over and restoration aims in the area are currently focused on the Chichester and Wey & Arun Canals.  However, once the Chichester Ship Canal is complete, the Chichester Ship Canal Trust plans to look to restoration of the Portsmouth & Arundel Canal as a link between Hunston and the river Arun.  This may take some years to initiate, but Arun District Council has agreed protection of the remaining line.
