Thames and Medway Canal

The aims of Thames & Medway Canal Association are directed more towards maintenance of the remains of the Thames & Medway Canal (7 miles) in an attractive order for local visitors, rather than full restoration of the canal, since a full through route would require use of the 2-mile long Higham Tunnel, currently used for a regular train service.  Proposals for redevelopment at the canal’s basin and Thames entrance at Gravesend provide the potential for restoration at this end of the canal, following discussions held by the Association and IWA's Kent & East Sussex Branch with property developers and Gravesham Council.
