Waterway Restoration Training & Courses

The Restoration Hub is running a series of workshops to provide support for waterway restoration projects.

PROJECT PLANNING WEBINAR

Dates: 22nd January 2020 8.00pm or 23rd January 2020 10.30am
Speaker: Mikk Bradley, Technical Support Officer, IWA
The webinars will cover aspects of the construction phase of your project and how to plan the site works to meet the requirements of Construction (Design and Management) Regulations.
They will focus on the project plan (construction phase health and safety plan) risk assessments and method statements.

We are offering this webinar on two separate dates to give you the best opportunity to make it along.  To attend the webinar you simply need access to a laptop, desktop, tablet or phone.  There will be audio so you will need speakers but you do not need a camera or microphone as all questions can be typed via the webinar software and using your keyboard.

FUNDING WORKSHOP

Location: CRT Offices, Hatton, CV35 7JL

Run by Liz Shaw, National Lottery Heritage Fund and Ellen Hawes, IWA's Fundraising Officer this workshop will give attendees a good overview of the Heritage Fund.  We will discuss common pitfalls with funding applications and also look into capital funding; social outcomes.
In the afternoon the focus will shift to putting accurate budgets together, match funding and our sources of funding.

ANNUAL RESTORATION CONFERENCE

Building resilience and creating connections

IWA and C&RT run the Annual Restoration Conference every year to provide support for waterway restoration projects. The 2020 Conference will focus on building resilience and creating connections to ensure our sector is stronger and more robust for the future.  Find out more about the Annual Restoration Conference.

EXTERNAL TRAINING EVENTS 2020 

SSSTS COURSE (funded by IWA)

Date: 1st & 2nd February 2020
Location: Rowington Village Hall, Warwickshire

IWA is running a CITB approved 2 day Site Supervisors Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS) course. The course is designed for anyone who has a role of a supervisor on a construction site.

Over the two days you will learn about your legal responsibilities regarding health, safety, welfare and environmental issues – this includes the Health & Safety at Work Act, specific site issues that challenge supervisors, effective toolbox talks and behavioural safety. To pass the course you need to attend both days and pass a multiple choice test at the end. Breakfast & lunch will be included. Overnight accommodation is available at Rowington Village Hall. Please note whilst the course is fully funded by the Hub if you cancel with less than 14 days’ notice and we cannot fill the place, you will be charged 50% of the course fee (£150) – this is unless the cancellation is due to illness or serious unforeseen circumstances.

PASMA: TOWERS FOR USERS (funded by IWA)

Date: 25th April 2020
Location: Wednesbury 

This one day PASMA Towers for Users course is for volunteers who would like to learn the best health and safety practice whilst using mobile access towers and working at heights. A PASMA Card and Certificate will be awarded on completion. The PASMA card will last for five years before it is due for renewal. If you are interested in reserving a place please email rachel.bryant@waterways.org.uk
