Fishing the Chelmer & Blackwater Navigation

The entire length of the Chelmer & Blackwater Navigation’s towpath and backwaters is available for coarse fishing. However there are a few restricted sections, mainly among moorings and close to navigational structures.

Tickets

Fishing rights on the waterway are leased to Maldon Angling Society, in conjunction with Chelmsford Angling Association. Members of either club may fish the navigation in compliance with the rules. For non-members, day tickets apply throughout the waterway. These are available from bailiffs on the bank (£6), or local tackle shops (£5).

Rod Licences

The Chelmer & Blackwater is for most of its length a canalised river. This means it is subject to the closed season regulated by the Environment Agency (15th March – 16th June), and you will need a rod licence to fish along the waterway.

More information about angling on the Navigation and other local waters can be found on the Maldon Angling Society’s website.
