London WRG

London WRG has regular weekend digs, usually every 3 weeks, mainly on the canals of the South of England, but our London volunteers also venture further afield to the waterways of the Midlands.

Join us on a dig

The work we do is very varied – including brick laying, scrub bashing, demolition and use of plant. No experience is necessary – you just need to be willing to get involved and have fun!

Hop on board

Everyone is welcome to join us, wherever you live. We can sometimes pick you up from a train station nearer to the dig. Minibus transport to digs is offered, usually leaving Waterloo Station at about 7pm on Friday evenings. We do ask for a voluntary contribution towards fuel costs, but this is never any more than £10.

Food & accommodation

Overnight accommodation is usually the local village hall, or similar, free of charge. Food is provided at cost price, usually about £10 per weekend.

Other WRG Weekend Groups

Waterway restoration

Restoring the UK’s blue infrastructure – our inherited network of navigable canals and rivers – is good for people and places.

New waterways add value

The advantages of the proposed waterways far exceed leisure boating alone. They incorporate a nature reserve, footpaths and cycle ways, the potential to improve flora and fauna and will contribute to the health and wellbeing of locals and visitors.

Waterway underfunding

Hundreds of miles of waterways – along with their unique heritage and habitats – are currently starved of funding and rely on constant lobbying by us to safeguard their future.
