Volunteer Opportunities

IWA West Country Branch is very active thanks to its enthusiastic branch committee and supporting volunteers. We have a number of opportunities available for you to join us to make a difference for the local waterways.

If you are interested in supporting the vast range of volunteer activities that the Branch arranges you could consider joining the branch committee. The group is very welcoming and supportive so do not worry if you are not an expert there will always be someone to lend a hand. Work parties

  • Work Party Volunteer: Help to ensure the canal is kept enjoyable for all of its users whether waterside or landside Tasks include litter picking, painting, vegetation clearance, boat crewing, liaising with public, and even helping to organise these increasing activities and groups.

  • Voluntary Administrator (Bridgwater): Support our work parties through administrative tasks including regular data input and any necessary updating of our website pages and social media accounts. Hours to suit, this role is not tied to work party days/times.

Running the branch

  • Membership Officer: Join our committee to look after the IWA members associated with the Branch by welcoming them, contacting them to establish communication preferences and reporting to the committee.

  • Committee MembersIf you think you could help to support the committee please do not hesitate to get in touch to discuss further.

Supporting branch activities

  • Publicity Officer: Help to promote our activities through tasks which include helping to create/maintain Facebook and Twitter accounts, updating the branch web pages and liaising with the press.

  • Website Content Editor: Support both in-house and incoming communications embodying current media technology, the role could be developed further to include Social Media.
