We know this is a challenging time for everyone, and in light of Government guidelines we have taken the decision to cancel/postpone all of our scheduled volunteer and training events on an 8 week rolling basis to be reviewed weekly. A full rundown of how this will affect our events going forward can be found below:
At the most recent WRG Board meeting held on the 17th May 2020 the Board had unanimously decided to cancel all our planned Canal Camps between the months of July & September. This decision was not made lightly, but with the most recent set of government announcements and in the interest and wellbeing of our volunteers the decision was made to cancel all our planned Canal Camp opportunities. Whilst this news will be disappointing to we hope you will understand and we hope to answer any pressing questions.
Mike Palmer, WRG Chairman comments:
“Although the Canal Camps scheduled for the summer months seem a long way off, they don’t just occur “on the day”. In advance of every successful week lies a combination of careful planning, seeking of permissions, bespoke training and comprehensive preparation work (both on paper and on the ground).
WRG has always taken the health and safety of its volunteers on site and back at our chosen accommodation very seriously and we will not run a camp where this is compromised. In the most immediate sense this means the Corvid-19 virus is at the top of our list for risks and we will of course follow any guidance given.
Planned Weekend Digs within the next 8 weeks have been suspended. For more detail about new dates and the status of future working parties please contact the Regional Groups direct:
