Get the Whole Family Outdoors and Dirty!

Family Volunteering

Why Run Family Camps?

We understand families would like to get involved with canal restoration and we aim to provide an opportunity to introduce children to the work of Waterway Recovery Group and The Inland Waterways Association.  By offering family volunteering we hope to engage children from a young age and enable them to find out about canal restoration and heritage, working outdoors and learn new skills.

Uttoxeter Canal Family Camp: 21st - 23rd July 2017

WRG’s first ever Family Camp will be running in 2017. The aim of this weekend is to introduce a new generation to the world of waterway restoration and maintenance.  Situated in the rural Churnet Valley, the Uttoxeter Canal ran 13 miles from a junction with the Caldon Canal at Froghall to a terminus in Uttoxeter. Our volunteers will assist the Caldon and Uttoxeter Canals Trust with improving the canal environment, tackling invasive species and helping wildlife!

The accommodation will be at The Stables Bunk House, a self catered hostel with three bedrooms which accommodates a total of 16 people. The accommodation also has kitchen facilities, living/dining room, bathrooms and a patio area with stunning views.

A variety of basic breakfast and lunchbox items will be provided but please feel free to bring along your own favourite foods. We will be able to provide dinner on the Saturday evening but we ask families make thier own arrangements for the Friday.

During the evening games and activites will be planned suitable for the whole family!

Price: £15 per person

*NO SPACES - FULLY BOOKED*

Information for Families

Families must be ready to follow the directions of the Leader at all times when on site.  Children must follow instructions and be supervised by a responsible adult. It is the responsibilty of the childs guardian to ensure they are following instructions and wearing saftey gear. We ask that for every two children there is one responsible adult with them. Canal Camps, as with any professional site, have to comply with current safety regulations.  WRG will provide any safety equipment required to complete the job in a safe manner.
