Family Canal Camps 2020

Family Volunteering

Why run Family Camps?

We understand families would like to get involved with canal restoration and we aim to provide an opportunity to introduce children to the work of Waterway Recovery Group and The Inland Waterways Association. By offering family volunteering we hope to engage children from a young age and enable them to find out about canal restoration and heritage, work outdoors and learn new skills.

The aim of these weekends are to introduce a new generation to the world of waterway restoration and maintenance. After three successeful weekends and fantastic feedback we have extended our programme for 2020 to cover three residential weekends for families.

Families must be ready to follow the directions of the leader at all times when on site. Children must follow instructions and be supervised by a responsible adult. It is the responsibilty of the child's guardian to ensure they are following instructions and wearing saftey gear. We ask that for every two children there is one responsible adult with them. Canal Camps, as with any professional site, have to comply with current safety regulations. We will provide any safety equipment required to complete the job in a safe manner.

A variety of basic breakfast and lunchbox items will be provided but please feel free to bring along your own favourite foods. We will be able to provide dinner on the Saturday evening but we ask families to make thier own arrangements for the Friday.
